The Research Award

Dr.-Ing. Jochen Stöbich, managing director of Stöbich Brandschutz GmbH and founder of the research award, intents to accelerate with this contest especially the applied research as a challange for the community of medium size businesses in the filed of optical technologies. He is confident, that light - as a tool for the cross section technology and important key to innovations in various parts of the economy - has an outstanding importance. Results of the research having a high potential for innovations for technical and natural science developments and which show a clear perspective for being implemented into new products or methods will be promoted.

The award is endowed with 15.000 Euro!

History of the laureates

2009 - Alexander Bachmann, Kaveh Kashani-Shirazi, Markus-Christian Amann (Walter Schottky Institute of the TU München), Jia Chen, Andreas Hangauer and Rainer Strzoda (Siemens AG, Corporate Technology, Power & Sensor Systems, München)

The scientists developed the base for new compact gas sensors based on laser technology which have a wide range of application, do not need calibration and offer detection saftey by inherent auto-supervision. Therefore they got awarded with the "Emperor-Friedrich-Research-Award 2009".

2005- Dr. Alexander Heisterkamp of the Laser centre in Hanover, Germany

Goslar. Yesterday, a young scientist received the "Emperor-Friedrich-Research-Award" at the great hall of the famous emperors palace in Goslar. The award is endowed with 15.000 Euro (the GZ newspaper already reported). The jury chooses the 33 year old Dr. Alexander Heisterkamp of the laser centre in Hanover, Germany for its development of the cutting laser microscope which will open new options e.g. in recancer research.

2003- Dipl.- Ing. Thomas Kleine- Ostmann (TU Braunschweig, Germany), Dipl.- Ing. Stafan Hoffmann and Prof. Dr. Martin Hofmann (both of the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany)

With the grant of the Emperor Friedrich-Research Award 2003 during the Innovation Forum Photonik on May 13th has a german research group been honoured, that delivered a significant milestone within the race for utilization of terahertz - waves: Scientists of the Universities in Braunschweig and Bochum developed a terahertz - radiation source, that is flexible, compact and economic at the same time and therefore enables the appliance of this novel light on a grand scale.

2001 - Dr. Gerald Rafler, Dr. Frank Börner, Dr. Eckhard Bonatz and Dr. Rudolf Nastke of the Fraunhofer-Institut für angewandte Polymerforschung in Golm, Germany

The scientists Dr. Gerhard Rafler, Dr. Frank Börner, Dr. Eckhard Bonatz und Dr. Rudolf Nastke of the Frauenhofer- Institute for polymer research in Golm near Potsdam have been decorated with the Emperor Friedrich-Research Award 2001 for their paper with the subject "micro-enclosure towards blaze and inflammation". They developed synthetic resin - capsules that melt in case of a fire and release added flame retardant.
